RE Curriculum
Holy Family aims to educate the whole person in body, mind and soul and to help develop the unique gifts and talents of each individual.
Our Religious Education curriculum aims to:
- Present comprehension content based on the knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith;
- Enable children to deepen their religious and theological understanding and be able to communicate effectively;
- Develop an authentic vision of the church’s moral and social teaching;
- Raise children’s awareness of the faith and traditions of other religious communities to bring out respect and understanding;
- Develop children’s ability to relate their Catholic faith to daily life;
- Enable children to relate the knowledge they have gained from Religious Education to other subjects;
- Bring clarity to the relationship between faith and life, and between faith and culture.
We are currently starting to adopt the new Religious Education Directory (RED), which was published in June 2023. Years R, 1 and 3 will be following the scheme this year and utilising some resources called 'The Vine and Branches' to support their learning. Next year, years 2 and 4 will start to use the new RED and by 2025 all Holy Family will be using the RED. Until their roll out year, 2,4,5 and 6 will continue to use the Lancaster Diocese planning wheels.
Parents do have the right to withdraw their children from RE lessons.
